Workshops
Workshops and courses are designed to strengthen leadership in both strategic and technical areas.
Infrastructure projects are becoming more complex and high stakes. To meet the challenges of today’s projects, leadership capability is critical. Te Waihanga supports the sector through professional development opportunities for Senior Responsible Owners (SROs), Project Directors, and other senior infrastructure leaders across the public sector.
Our learning courses are designed to strengthen leadership in both strategic and technical areas—covering topics such as governance, commercial acumen, delivery oversight, and inter-agency collaboration. These courses include short workshops focused on specific leadership challenges, as well as multi-session short courses to support deeper capability development and peer-to-peer learning over time.
Each course is grounded in the Project Director Capability Framework and shaped by ongoing engagement with the sector. Participants explore real-world case studies, apply practical tools, and learn from the lived experiences of their peers.
All courses are open to public sector employees only. There is small cost to attend events, charged to support ongoing delivery of the programme.
Senior Responsible Owner (SRO) / Project Sponsor Executive Workshop
This full-day, in-person workshop is designed exclusively for public sector leaders responsible for the governance and oversight of major infrastructure projects. It offers a practical and peer-informed look at what “good” governance looks like in the infrastructure context.
Through a mix of expert facilitation and peer discussion, participants will explore key topics such as:
- Governance and oversight vs. management
- Establishing an effective authorising environment
- Being a better client of infrastructure
- Getting investment thinking right from the start
- Using assurance to add value
- Monitoring progress and performance
The workshop also provides time and space for discussion and connection with peers who face similar leadership challenges. We run this workshop on a recurring basis once we reach minimum registration numbers.
Strong governance enabled me to drive through change barriers. As we progressed and sold the ‘why’, even the project detractors became advocates.
