In this section, you will find a range of resources designed to support infrastructure leaders throughout your leadership career.

From practical guides to structured leadership development frameworks, these tools will help Senior Responsible Owners (SROs), Project Directors, and agency leaders responsible for appointing and managing infrastructure leaders.

For Senior Responsible Owners (SROs)

Senior Responsible Owners (SROs) are pivotal to the success of large-scale public infrastructure projects. They carry ultimate accountability for project outcomes, ensuring that projects remain aligned with strategic priorities and deliver expected benefits. Given the complexity and scale of these initiatives, SROs need clear role definitions, robust support structures, and access to best-practice guidance to navigate challenges effectively.

Te Waihanga is building a suite of resources to help SROs and the agencies that appoint them to succeed in these critical roles. These resources will ensure that SROs have the clarity, authority, and structured support necessary to lead with confidence and deliver infrastructure projects effectively.

For Project Directors

Project Directors play a crucial role in infrastructure delivery, ensuring that projects are executed efficiently, remain within budget, and achieve their intended outcomes. They are responsible for overseeing the entire project lifecycle, from planning and procurement to execution and completion. Given the complexity and scale of public infrastructure projects, Project Directors must possess strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to navigate challenges such as governance, risk management, and stakeholder engagement.

Effective Project Directors must be able to make strategic decisions, lead high-performing teams, and manage competing priorities while maintaining a clear focus on project objectives. To support Project Directors in these demanding roles, Te Waihanga is developing a suite of best-practice resources designed to enhance leadership capability, support career development, and ensure that project teams are equipped to succeed.
