Health infrastructure review
We conducted a review on New Zealand government health infrastructure, to recommend how the newly created Health NZ could in future optimise the way health infrastructure is planned, delivered, and maintained.
This review is based on learnings from the health infrastructure systems in Victoria and New South Wales.
Recommendations in this report cover asset management, capital planning, project delivery and the public hospital infrastructure deficit. It encourages a more significant focus on infrastructure and critical asset investments, including the establishment of a 10-year Capital Investment Plan, a multi-year funding model and the further progression of the National Asset Management Plan managed by the Health Infrastructure Unit.
While the review focuses on health infrastructure, its recommendations could equally be relevant for other asset intensive government agencies with extensive portfolios of ageing infrastructure.
The research was led by Expert Reviewer Robert Rust, former Chief Executive of Health Infrastructure in New South Wales.
