We have published the final report in our research into Māori engagement in infrastructure.
This looks at Māori involvement across the infrastructure sector in investment, as suppliers, in the infrastructure workforce and as users of infrastructure. It collates information gathered through desktop research and interviews with infrastructure sector participants as well as input gathered from relevant agencies.
Among its findings, the report highlights some of the common factors in mana whenua investment, barriers that small to medium Māori businesses can face in obtaining contracts to work on infrastructure projects, areas where data on Māori participation in the sector is lacking, and the proportion of Māori in the infrastructure workforce.
This builds on previous research looking at how infrastructure providers and Māori groups engage on infrastructure projects.
